Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment has decided to hold back on the release of Batman: Return to Arkham. The title was announced in mid-May, a remaster of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It was scheduled for release on July 29.
In a message on the official Arkham Knight forums, WB representative Steve Grayson explained that the porting developer, Virtuos Games, needed more time with the project.
"After reviewing the progress of the project, the team at WB Games has decided to delay the release of Batman: Return to Arkham to give the team at Virtuos Games additional time to deliver a polished Batman Arkham game experience," said Grayson. "We do not have a release date yet and will be sure to communicate that once we are sure the game will be ready. We know this is disappointing news, but we feel the extra time will allow the team to create the best gaming experience for our fans."
Warner Bros is reticent to release anything but a perfect port after the reception to Batman: Arkham Knight on PC. The optimization of the title at launch was poor, running poorly on Nvidia cards and worse on AMD rigs. The game was capped at 30 FPS, crashes were normal, and at one point, WB halted any new sales of the PC version. Eventually, the company outright cancelled the Mac and Linux versions.
Batman: Arkham Knight for PC was eventually fixed for many, but WB doesn't want a repeat of that performance. It's likely that they looked at what they received from the developer and decided to give the game a bit more time in the kitchen. Honestly, I think that's better for everyone.
